International Administration Congress evaluates 2020 edition
The ADM 2020 – International Administration Congress – managing committee did a balance of this year’s event actions. For the first time in its history the congress was accomplished in an online format and counted with the participation of academics and professionals from eight countries. “We began to plan the event back in 2019, in that moment nobody expected a pandemic to happen. We were discussing on the normal format, already thinking about all the structure we had to organize”, says Cesar Abud Limas, chairman of the congress’ scientific committee and professor at UEPG – State University of Ponta Grossa – which is carrying out the ADM event.
The professor Adriana Fabrini, ADM’s scientific committee member reminds that as the congress theme “Administration’s New Frontiers” was defined, the organization did not expect to reach the scope of the proposed subject. “It would be a topic to be worked on in same the way we’ve been doing so in the prior years. But the truth is that we are living this frontier. It is something affecting us directly or indirectly, administrators or not. We all are feeling this need to reinvent ourselves, to live this new frontier”, highlights. She still remembers that is was challenging to work in the organization of a new format for the congress, and highlighted the participation of the event’s scientific community. “Even from a distance we could join forces to win the moment and make this digital interaction happen in a really cool way”.
Transmitted through digital platforms, the congress had more than 1.6 thousand views during the three days of activities. The schedule, coodinated by the professors Sirlei Moletta and Adriana Schatz, featured approaches and discussions about economic, social, environmental and technological issues inserted into the Administration field. “Our proposal to the 2020 schedule needed to comply to what this phase we’re living in demands. Current themes that promote discussion about those new Administration frontiers. This year, with the active participation from the students in the theme selection process, the insertion of matters relevant to them was possible”, highlights Schatz.
In the licensed professor Marilisa Oliveira’s evaluation, the ADM achieved good results. “In February we thought about canceling the event because of all the context caused by the pandemic. But, there is always those people who work on an idea and accept to walk together. In that way, the PiSigma’s IT team was fundamental to make the ADM happen. We tested some digital tools in the pre-congress and pointed out changes needed to the event itself. We achieved success and saw the result in practice”, listed. She also highlights that a task force was needed to contact and inform the congressmen about the format of the activities. “Our IT team provided a tutorial for all participants with a walk-through to carry out the schedule. There were countless tests, guidance on the lighting, sound, online monitoring so it could work out in the end. We missed the hugs, the coffee, but this situation also provided us other experiences, of better humanizing our relations, of having to hold hands, of motivating and uniting forces.
