UEPG Professor, Jasmine Cardozo Delivers Lecture in China
Professor Jasmine Cardozo, assigned to the Department of Tourism at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), was invited to deliver a lecture at the International Conference on Mountains and National Parks, held at the University of Tourism in Sichuan, China.
The Conference took place on March 30th, and aimed to promote sustainable development and strengthen mountain tourism in Sichuan. In 2021, five parks were declared national in China, with the majority located in mountainous areas: Sanjiangyuan National Park, Giant Panda National Park, Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park, and Hainan Tropical Forest National Park.
According to Jasmine, “participating in events like this is important not only for exchanging information and opportunities for collaborative research, but also for strengthening networking and exposure to new ideas. For example, they are already using digital interpretive panels in national parks there! I had never seen that before.” Jasmine highlights that the event was a great opportunity to strengthen research ties among participants and speakers from various countries such as the United States, Tibet, Australia, and China, in addition to the UEPG professor from Brazil.
According to information from the University of Tourism in Sichuan, mountainous regions and national park environments face serious challenges. Climate change, biodiversity loss, and soil degradation directly impact the viability of tourism in these regions, a fact that mobilizes professionals from various fields and countries in search of alternatives and collective responses linked to sustainable development goals aiming for the continuity of mountain tourism.
