From March to August 2020, he completed a postdoctoral research period at the University of Barcelona at the Thermal Spray Center (CPT). He is currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Technology \u2013 Paran\u00e1 (UTFPR), working in the Graduate Program in Materials Engineering (PPGEM-PG) at the Ponta Grossa campus of UTFPR and in the Graduate Program in Materials Science and Engineering (PPGCEM) at UEPG. He conducts research in the field of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, with an emphasis on the mechanical properties of metals and alloys, focusing mainly on the following topics: thermal spraying, high-temperature coatings, cavitation, welding, martensitic stainless steel, and coatings.\u00a0Since 2010, he has been involved in research and technological development projects. In partnership with Lactec Institute, he has participated in research projects such as: &#8220;Development of high-tech processes and methodology for the repair of hot section components of aeroderivative and industrial gas turbines for application in the national market&#8221;, funded by Petrobras, which included equipment acquisition and funding for three master\u2019s students at PPGME-PG. In 2017, a new project was approved: &#8220;Exploratory study on the application of coatings deposited on FCC turboexpander blades, by spraying and surface treatment to increase erosion and corrosion resistance&#8221;, which funded two master&#8217;s students.\u00a0Currently, he is involved in the project &#8220;Development of Robotic Thermal Spray Coating Techniques to Reduce Erosion and Cavitation Wear in Kaplan Turbines&#8221;, with the company Santo Ant\u00f4nio Energia funding two master\u2019s students and two undergraduate students at PPGEM-PG and in Mechanical Engineering at Ponta Grossa.\u00a0Taking advantage of the presence of major automakers in the Curitiba and Ponta Grossa region, he submitted and had a project approved within the Rota 2030 Program. This project is part of Line IV \u2013 \u201cCompetitive Tooling\u201d, funded by FUNDEP. His research focuses on the durability of concrete, both from the perspective of the material&#8217;s properties and through the study of pathological manifestations and necessary repairs to ensure the material maintains its functionality. This research includes concrete mix design, involving the use of mineral additions, admixtures, and other alternative materials. He is the coordinator of the UEPG Multiuser Laboratory Complex (C-LABMU). He holds a degree in Chemistry from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paran\u00e1 (1985), a master\u2019s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Federal University of S\u00e3o Carlos (1990), and a PhD in Chemistry from the same institution (1995). In 2005, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Jaume I University \u2013 Spain, developing the research project \u201cResearch and development of glass and glass-ceramic materials: high-temperature frits with good adaptability to stoneware and porcelain stoneware substrates.\u201d\u00a0He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and advises students at the undergraduate research, master\u2019s, and doctoral levels. His main undergraduate teaching areas include Materials Science, Ceramic Materials Processing, Materials Selection, and Testing and Characterization of Ceramic Materials. At the graduate level (Master\u2019s and PhD), he teaches courses such as Materials Science, Ceramic Materials Processing, Physical Ceramics, Electroceramic Materials, and Chemically Bonded Ceramics.\u00a0He coordinates the institutional research line \u201cProcessing and Characterization of Structural and Functional Ceramics\u201d and has experience in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, with an emphasis on ceramic materials. His main research topics include SnO\u2082, varistors, ZnO, electrical properties, ceramic materials processing, nanomaterials, recycling, and geopolymers.\u00a0He is the leader of the Ceramic Materials Research Group (GPMC) and co-leader of the Nano-Iova research group (UEPG). He also participates in several research groups accredited by CNPq: Crystal Growth and Photonics (CCAF\/UFPEL), Environmental Degradation of Materials for Power Generation and Distribution Networks (LACTEC), Organic Matter Dynamics in Soil Management Systems (UEPG), and Surface Engineering (UFPR).\u00a0He has published 60 papers in indexed journals with 1,157 citations and an H-index of 14. He is currently a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). He served as Head of Research and Development at Embrapa Florestas (2012\u20132013). He conducted research as a visiting scholar at North Carolina State University, USA (2008\u20132009), and at the University of Nottingham, UK (2010).\u00a0He is a permanent faculty member in the Graduate Program in Materials Science and Engineering (PIPE) at the Federal University of Paran\u00e1, and in the Graduate Program in Materials Engineering and Science at the State University of Ponta Grossa. He advises theses and dissertations, and supervises postdoctoral research both at the universities and at Embrapa.\u00a0His research focuses on the application of nanotechnology in the forest-based sector, as well as on biomass pretreatment for second-generation bioethanol production and new applications for products derived from fast pyrolysis of wood.
