They must course:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Journalism theories (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: theoretical approaches to Journalism studies; historical trajectory; Epistemological foundations of journalism theories. Contributions from Communication theories and other study fields to Journalism\u00a0 studies. The theoretical constitution of the Journalism field. Journalism as a form of knowledge. Journalistic production processes: operational, organizational, narrative and technological structures. Social implications of Journalistic making.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Methodologies of Journalism Research (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: The logic of scientific research. The construction of the research object. The Journalism research field. Epistemological issues on science and method. Method as conceptual horizon, guiding strategy and instrumental device. Methodological specifities in Journalism research. The production processes as research focus and the challenges of investigation in the context of resetting of Journalism. Methodological strategies in (interdisciplinary) dialog with other fields of knowledge. Main approaches e proposals of research method in Journalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Journalism, democracy and power (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Processes of public opinion formation in complex societies. Public sphere and forms of political representation. Journalism\u2019s role in the definition of agendas (public, political and mediatic). Journalistic markets, social demand and hegemonic contests. State, media regulation and social control of information. Limits and challenges of journalistic autonomy and legitimacy in democratic societies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Journalism and technological convergence\u00a0 (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Transformations of journalism in the historical context of communication technologies. The mediatic convergence process and the mediatic devices. Changes in journalistic making and the news construction. Speed and mobility as challenges to professional responsibilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Master\u2019s dissertation Orientation &#8211; MDO I (30H- 2 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Following of research activities by the orientator, in the course\u2019s second semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Master\u2019s dissertation Orientation &#8211; MDO II (30H- 2 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Following of research activities by the orientator, in the course\u2019s third semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Teaching internship &#8211; TI (30h &#8211; 2 credits, mandatory for scholarship holders)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Carrying out teaching internship in graduation under doctoral professor\u2019s supervision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Optional disciplines<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Besides mandatory disciplines, the student must complete 12 credits in optional disciplines. PPGJor offers six optional disciplines:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Line 1: Journalistic Production Processes<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Circulation and Consumption in Journalism (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Comprehension and circulation in mediatic processes and products. Distinguishing aspects of mediatic-journalistic flows. Identification of mediatic consumption. Journalistic products circulation devices. Recognition strategies of journalistic consumption and circulation processes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Thematic seminar (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Deepen a thematic axis, from a sector or field of Contemporary Journalism studies, providing students with systematized knowledge, able to contribute with the development of Master\u2019s research project. O Thematic Seminars are offered, in each semester, with variable axis, in line with the academic demands and research and work availability of the Program\u2019s faculty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Methodological Seminar (45h &#8211; 3 credits)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Presentation of preliminary versions of research projects by the respective authors (students), considering conceptual and methodological aspects, operational techniques of investigations, both empirical and theoretical. The Seminar is supposed to operate as a research lab among participants of the groups held by PPGJor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Line 2: Journalistic processes and social practices<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program: Journalism, social representations and cultural identities. Media in the shaping of cultural consumption. Mediatic production, globalization and cultural diversity. Processes of intervention of social agents in the mediatic field. Relationships between journalism, social movements and communication networks.
