Discussing aspects of a work, author or historical moment from multiple perspectives. This was the proposal of the event “Dialogues between Journalism, History and Literature”, held every six months by the Master’s in Journalism at UEPG since 2016. In the first half of 2019, the chosen work was “Mariguella, the guerrilla who set the world on fire”, written by journalist and writer Mário Magalhães and published by Companhia das Letras in 2012. The event was part of the program for the Descomemorar Golpes Cycle, which includes activities in different locations around the city throughout the week to discuss the memory and impacts of the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil.

The panel on Carlos Marighella’s biography was attended by Professor Dr. Karine Moura Vieira, from the Journalism course at Uninter, Professor Dr. Paulo Mello, from the Professional Master’s Degree in History Teaching at UEPG, and Professor Dr. Hebe Maria Gonçalves de Oliveira, from the Master’s Degree in Journalism at UEPG. The event took place on March 27, 2019, Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m., in the Small Auditorium of UEPG’s Central Campus, with free admission.

““Dialogues between Journalism, History and Literature”” has already addressed, in previous editions, the work of Umberto Eco, Euclides da Cunha, Lima Barreto, Clarice Lispector and writings from the Russian Revolution and May 1968. Marighella’s work was chosen because it is in tune with the proposal of the Descomemorar Golpes Cycle and for its historical, journalistic and literary relevance.

Carlos Marighella was a member of the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) and one of the leaders of the National Liberation Action (ANL). Black and poor, the politician and writer was persecuted and tortured at two points in Brazilian history: by the Vargas government and by the military regime, and was assassinated in 1969.

Dialogues in Journalism and Literature (2018)

Clarice Lispector’s (1925-1977) contributions to journalism and literature were the theme of Diálogos 2018 at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG). The event took place on October 17th at the UEPG main campus, with free admission.

UEPG professors Silvana Oliveira (Language Studies) and Paula Melani Rocha (Journalism) participated in the debate, as well as Sant’Ana College professor Fernando Zan Vieira (Letters).

Diálogos is organized by the UEPG Postgraduate Program (Master’s) in Journalism.
