Winter seminar of communication studies
ISBN: 2175-0505
The Winter Seminar of Communication Studies was created in 1996 by the Ponta Grossa State University (UEPG)’s Social Communication – Journalism course. The event arose from the desire of professors and new masters, who at the time developed their doctoral researches in other postgraduate programs from several regions of the country, of creating a scientific event for students to know their doctoral researches.
The initial intention of the event was to stimulate scientific research and create a research environment in the course, in a time of few scientific initiation scholarships, therefore, the 1990’s and early 2000’s are marked by an intimate character. The event grows with a critical intention towards the State and the means of communication, encouraging social criticism, political reading and the problematization of journalistic coverages.
From 2013, the Journalism’s faculty staff changes the focus of the event, emphasizing the research lines of the newly created postgraduate program Master’s in Journalism (PPGJor – UEPG), “Journalistic Production Processes” and “Journalistic Processes and Social Practices”.
In 2024, the UEPG Master’s in Journalism held its 27th Winter Seminar, which has been held continuously since its creation. In 2020 and 2021, the event was held remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event proceedings are available on the PPGJor-UEPG website.
The 28th edition of the event has as its theme “Four decades of higher education in Journalism in Campos Gerais”, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the UEPG Journalism course. The Winter Seminar takes place in the first week of June, between the 2nd and 6th, and is organized by the Combating Disinformation Project and the UEPG Journalism Agency. Check out the event website.
